Lady Macbeth Essay

Lady Macbeth Essay Lady Macbeth Essay Macbeth Conscience is the feeling that doing certain actions is wrong. It is something we have with us from birth, something that is also taught, developed and shaped through parents, especially during childhood. As children, we are taught what is right and what is wrong, by being given reasons and examples through very simple things. For instance, when a child takes another child’s chocolate, parents will teach their child that one must not take others possessions just because one wants to. But it’s worth mentioning that if a child’s needs haven’t been met, they will try to fulfill them at another child’s expense. Conscience is the little voice we hear within us when we do something wrong. It might start very high in the beginning and keep repeating the same conviction of what we did wrong. But, if we keep ignoring it, the voice will become low, and disappear. It is a sign that one’s conscience falls. It is ignoring that feeling of guilt when doing wrong actions. Some people’s conscience falls and rises in an extreme way; Macbeth by William Shakespeare is the best example. Macbeth is an ambitious man. He is a powerful general in the king’s army, a war hero. Macbeth meets three witches, who tell him that he is â€Å"Thane of Glamis.† They predict that he will be â€Å"Thane of Cawdor† and that he shall be â€Å"King of Scotland.† Macbeth’s first conscience fall is shown when he thinks of killing King Duncan in order to have the crown. Macbeth questions the prediction: â€Å"This supernatural soliciting cannot be ill, cannot be good. If ill, why hath it given me earnest of success commencing in a truth? I am Thane of Cawdor. If good, why do I yield to that suggestion whose horrid image doth unfix my hair and make my seated heart knock at my ribs against the use of nature?† (1.3.23).These words of the witches cannot be bad, and cannot be good either. If they are bad, why do they promise me success? They said the truth; I am â€Å"Thane of Cawdor.† If it is good, why do I have this horrible image of a dead king? This thinking makes my hair stand on end, and my heart beats so fast. It knocks on my ribs against its usual beat. Macbeth has a conscience. Macbeth becomes angry when King Duncan gives his son Malcolm the title of â€Å"Prince of Cumberland† since Macbeth wants the crown. He wants to be the king after the king’s death. Macbeth’s conscience unravels when he says: â€Å"The Prince of Cumberland! That is a step on which I must fall down or else o’erleap, for in my way it lies. S tars, hide your fires; let not light see my black and deep desires. The eye wink at the hand, yet let that be which the eye fears, when it is done, to see† (1.4.29). This is a confession of his desires. He wants to kill the King to satisfy his ambition, but Malcolm is in his way. He must fall down on that step or jump over it (Malcolm), for it is in his way. Till now, no plan to kill Duncan is contrived! It is still in Macbeth’s own mind. He sends his wife a letter about the witches in which Macbeth writes, â€Å"This have I thought good to deliver thee, my dearest partner of greatness, that thou might’st not lose the dues of rejoicing, by being ignorant of what greatness is promised thee. Lay it to thy heart, and Farewell.† (1.5.31). Between the lines of his letter we see how Macbeth offers his wife the title of a ‘Queen’. Therefore, she will help him to become a king. Lady Macbeth loves her husband. She wants him to be the king, to get the c rown which he deserves. In the same time, she knows he is too kind and he does not have the evil in him to kill the king. She is a mere woman and she knows he will not listen to her, but she will argue him. She has a lack of conscience when she calls on spirits â€Å"Come, you spirits that tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here, and fill me from the crown to the top-full of direst cruelty† (1.5.38–41). She begged the spirits to unsex her, undo her, and let all the symbols of womanhood disappear. She wants to be cruel to help her Lady Macbeth Essay Lady Macbeth Essay Also I get the picture that nothing will stop Lady Macbeth since she dreams of being Queen and she will achieve it. When Macbeth returns from battle she’s all over him, and telling him what she wants to do, telling us the audience that she’s in control over her Macbeth relationship. Once King Duncan arrives for his visit Lady Macbeth turns into the perfect hostess she’s polite courteous and completely different to how we saw her previous telling us she can change her personality easily. In these scenes Duncan calls her ‘fair and noble hostess’ where as the scene before Lady Macbeth has been plotting to kill Duncan. In Act 1 Scene 7 we get to see Lady Macbeth in control, determined and I wondered did the evil sprits really turn her? This particular scene I remember when I saw the video of Macbeth because it showed her bossy point demanding, evil al the things a women shouldn’t be. Lady Macbeth says in this scene to Macbeth ‘was the hope drunk’ exclaiming you made me a promise how dare you change your mine, ‘art thou afeard’ meaning you coward your afraid showing that she isn’t he’s weak. Also Lady Macbeth says something which leaves a question in my mind did she have a young child and it past a way or not? She says she’s given suck and she plucked her nipple from his boneless gums. Then she carries on persuading Macbeth until she gets what she wants mc to say he’ll kill King Duncan so she can get her dream. Lady Macbeth next appears in Act 2 Scene 3 when Macbeth enters with two ‘bloody daggers’ after killing King Duncan, suddenly for a second but I noticed it on the video she got sacred which was showed when she spoke in short sentences then suddenly Lady Macbeth is in charge again ‘give me the daggers’ imposing if your scared I’ll do it. Then in the video we see her bossing him around like he was a child. I found this scene particularly interesting to watch because it per traded each Lady Macbeth in to two ways in power and a scared and it was acted well so you could feel the tension there must have been between them at this moment. In Act 3 Scene 3 King Duncan’s body is discovered. We discover not only is Lady Macbeth evil and persuasive she’s a good liar and actress too. She shows as this with the surprise tone of him being found in ‘what our house?’ ‘Help me hence’ then follows by fainting, but I wonder was this on purpose or did she really faint which I’m not sure of and the video didn’t tell me that either. When we next see Lady Macbeth in Act 3 Scene 3 she has her dream she’s queen but she doesn’t seem happy. She seems distraught scared and anxious, but never less she covers for her husband when he has his visions of Banquo and uses her skills of a liar to cover the real reason of why Macbeth is saying Banquo is there but isn’t. The next scene we see Lady Macbeth in is the most dramatic and when I saw it on the video it looked weird, the tensions was and Lady Macbeth looked a mess. Lady Macbeth is sleepwalking she’s having a nightmare of the night king Duncan was killed. ‘Yes here’s a spot’ which is indicating to the blood on her hands from the daggers and she said this a few times more ‘the thane of fife had a wife. Where is she now?’ saying Macbeth killed the Macduffs, there gone. ‘Here the smell of blood still’ which shows in her eyes she will never be free of what she had done which in the video shows her scr ubbing and scrubbing her hands. Finally Lady Macbeth kills her self by jumping off her balcony showing how distraught she really was. In Act 5 Scene 9 Lady Macbeth is called a ‘fiend-like queen’ but is she really deep down I think Lady Macbeth was a kind gentle person but had a ambition and would do anything to make it happen a it had consciences because it cost her her life and made her unhappy for her last months alive and this was shown in the video by how she looked and the acts she put on. Several countries have experienced a rapid economic growth and as a result of which they are the ones who have consumed a lot of oil and will continue to do so. Some of the Asian countries have been consuming a lot of oil, and this consumption is only going to increase in the coming days. If the demand of oil increases and of the supp ly remains the same, the price of oil increases. The US is excessively dependent upon other countries for oil; this dependence can prove to be very costly for the US. There are other alternatives that can be considered, the best way to eliminate this dependence is to use solar energy. Solar energy is renewable and the best part is that it does not harm the atmosphere. The US government should make significant changes; all the automobile makers should make automobiles that would run on solar energy.

Pro-Forma and Business Cycle Research Paper Essay This report will compare the pro-forma financial statement of two companies: Bank of America and General Electric also-known as GE. It will describe and summarize the comparison of both organizations and their fiscal stability. It will also detail the typical business cycle of these two companies. Pro-Forma Financial of General Electric and Bank of America General Electric and Bank of America are two companies in the US that are competing to increase their sales, as well as their income in order to increase profits. Both companies are very strong financially: GE is an agglomerates industry with a market capital of $259.56 billion and Bank of America one of the major financial institutions with a market capital of $183.25 billion. Both companies make an effort to improve their bottom figures in each financial year. Bank of America had some merging and restructuring expenses in 2008, but was still showing remarkable earnings. However in the latest first-quarter 2014 report, a net loss of $276 million was published. In 2014, GE decided to acquire the power and Grid business of Alstom. GE expects the deal to be accretive to earnings in the first year. (www.businesswire.com, 2014). Financial Viability and Ratio Analysis of General Electric According to the GE third-quarter 2014 annual report, the organization is performing well and has experienced profit growth since 2013 in the following areas: operating earnings, revenues, industrial segment profits, industrial segment organic revenue, and growth market orders. In addition, new technologies sparked an increase in equipment orders. Likewise, the organization has a strategy in place that has created growth in services business. GE will continue to simplify operations and focus on the needs of its consumers. Furthermore, GE is continuing to gain approval to acquire Alstom Power and Grid businesses. This acquisition is expected to take  place in 2015. The acquisition is expected to increase GE’s cost per share and it will help GE obtain its goal of receiving most of its earnings through industrial businesses. (GE Reports Third-Quarter 2014, 2013) A ratio analysis is a â€Å"quantitative analysis of information contained in a company’s financial statements. (Definition of Ratio Analysis, 2014) It is used to â€Å"evaluate various aspects of a company’s operating and financial performance such as its efficiency, liquidity, profitability and solvency† (Definition of Ratio Analysis, 2014). This is a great tool to calculate how the company is doing over a certain amount of time. GE’s efficiency ratio for day’s inventory, for example, was 54.76, however in 2013, it was 77.36. Receivables turnover was another huge improvement from 2004, at 12.21, to 2013 at 6.81(General Electric Co, 2014). GE’s short term debt has decreased from 21.02% in 2004 to 13.24% in 2013 however the long term debt has increased, with 28.41% in 2004, and 36.97% in 2013. The current ratio has also improved with 2.39 in 2004, and 2.53 in 2013, this is a big win for GE! (General Electric Co, 2014) This shows that the company is more able to pay debts and short term obligations than when it first began (Current Ratio Definition, 2014). Financial Viability and Ratio Analysis of Bank of America In order to know the financial health of an organization, it is imperative to know the organizations financial viability. We have looked at the financial viability for Bank of America and find it to be a viable company. We looked at Bank of Americas Return on Investment (ROI) which is calculated by looking at Bank of Americas yearly return compared to the total investment we need for a project. Bank of Americas Revenue was 98,353 million with Net Income at 5,222 million for the year ending 2013. Total liabilities were 1,884,932 million with 2,123,613 million in total assets (Bank of America, 2014). Bank of Americas working capital ratio is 1.126 which shows us that is able to have enough cash to repay debts. Bank of Americas debt ratio is .8876 which shows that this company can repay long term debt. These few ratios help us see that this business is able to generate enough surpluses in order to meet their recurring payment obligation which also verifies the companys viability (Bank o f America, 2014). Business Cycle A business cycle is the growth or decline in an economy. As of today the economy has grown from the recession in September 2008 that left many people without jobs, the stock market plunges and many companies going bankrupt and closing. Furthermore, the goal of economic policy is to keep the economy in a healthy growth rate that create jobs for people, but slow enough to avoid inflation. Many factors can cause an economy to spin out of control, or settle into depression. The most important, over-riding factor is confidence of investors, consumers, businesses and politicians. The economy grows when there is confidence in the future and in policymakers, and does the opposite when confidence drops (Amadeo, 2014). Recent banking trends offer subtle indications about the business cycle. The financial crisis in 2008 stemmed from explosive monetary policy during the preceding period (Hofschire, 2014). During the financial crisis in 2008 it left a lot of companies wondering if they will ever get back to where they were before the market plunged. Financial institutions, such as Bank of America made it difficult for home buyers to take out loans to purchase properties. Although the housing market dropped, it was harder to qualify for loans because the qualifications were stricter. Furthermore, home owners were in upside loans because they could not afford to pay back the loans. During the financial crisis in 2008 General Electric (GE) was one of the major companies that produced numerous of appliances, such as refrigerators, stoves, microwaves and much more. However, they took a huge financial loss as their earnings started to decrease as sale prices declined (Smith, 2008). General Electric said profits from its money and commercial finance divisions should total $2 billion in the third quarter, down nearly 20 percent from $2.45 billion in the second quarter (Smith, 2008). General Electric Capital is a large contributor to the companys global earnings. Furthermore, General Electric had to give up some assets to raise their capital. As of today GE is one of the largest companies, which generate home appliances and they were able to overcome the financial crisis and regain their financial earnings. Conclusion This report shows that both GE and Bank of America are seeing steady growth and are slowly recovering from the recession. Both GE and Bank of America  seem to be in the expansion part of the business cycle as sales would project. GE has improved in its current ratio between 2004 and 2013, and Bank of American still needs to improve its current ratio. Both companies have seen an increase in many areas of their financials and plan to continue to increase sales and profits. References Alstom Board Chooses GE Offer. (2014, June 21). Tree of Red Stars :: essays research papers

Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  In all parts of the world social ranking has always been an issue to people. From early history when the Romans were the major empire to present day in the United States, social classes have always been accepted as a means for people to distinguish themselves. In Uruguay, the social classes are clearly divided and define whom people marry and how they are treated.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  There is a very distinct social class system in Uruguay. This class distinction starts at the top with the landowners. This group is not at the top because of their wealth, they are there because they have the most land and power. The next tier in the class system is the business class. These are the people that own and operate all the businesses in the community. Unlike the United States, military comes next in the social chain, because they hold much power and control over the community. Next come agricultural workers, who do not hold power in society because they do not own a significant amount of money or land. The bottom tier of the social system is the beggars, or â€Å"bottom feeders,† They have no money, land, power or responsibilities, which in turn brings them no respect as peers.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  As seen in the end of chapter thirteen with the marriage/elopement of Cora, and the attempted marriage of Raquel, social classes were a major factor in who people married and for what reasons. In Cora’s case, she wanted to marry Ramiro, a young man of no social consequence and not of the family’s faith. Cora’s mother was also against this marriage because Ramiro had no money and didn’t look respectable. Cora’s mother wanted her to marry a young Jewish lawyer, who had higher social status, was respected in the community, and made a much higher amount of money. Cora was to be forced to marry the lawyer, not out of love, but out of Uruguayan society’s class beliefs.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The announcement of Raquel’s wedding to Walter Diaz Varela surprised and pleased all the characters in the book. Raquel’s family was not well off because of her father and his actions, and they were having problems supporting themselves. Raquel’s mother had to sew 15 hours a day to just get by, and this union would provide a trophy wife for Walter, and a reprieve from her mother’s duties. Walter did insist on a prenuptial agreement stating Raquel and her family would get no money if they married, which offended Senora Francisca, Raquel’s mother, but she ignored it because it meant they would live much better.

American and Iranian educational system Essay

In some counties, like Iran, one of the problems is that most of the immigrants prefer to live in the USA because of the educational system. In Iran, principals of the schools do not pay much attention to the way lessons are thought to the students; however, one of the places that care most about the educational system is the USA. In the United States, all students have the same opportunity of gaining their goals. By knowing the differences between the educational system between the USA and Iran, principals can develop the educational system better than before. Consequently, by having a better educational system, student’s knowledge will be improved. The educational structure in Iran differs from the USA in hardness of materials in high schools, opportunity for studying, atmosphere and facilities. The first difference between the educational system of Iran and the USA is that in Iran science materials in the high schools include university courses of the USA. Therefore, there are a lot for students to cover in high schools, and the courses are also too hard. So students in Iran study more prior to the university than their peers in the USA. Moreover, there is a university entrance exam in Iran that takes place each year in the summer, which includes all material of four years of high school. If students pass this test, they can attend to the university; otherwise, they should study one more year to retake the exam. Likewise, TASP is one of tests that all students should take, which takes place in some states in America; however, failing in any parts of these exams does not prevent students from entering universities in the year that they have planned to. . Additionally, in America, study materials in high schools cannot be compared to those of universities. Because from high school to university the courses become hard suddenly compared to the easy ones in the high schools. As a result, if students migrate from Iran to the USA, they will find most of the university courses easy because of having a strong educational back ground from their countries. In addition to complication of materials, another educational system variation between Iran and United States is the opportunity for people in all conditions to study. Most of students who have defects are ashamed of studying next to the other students in Iran. Besides, in Iran if disabled  students decide to continue studying in the universities, there are no efficient facilities as well as capable teachers for them. On the other hand, in the USA, schools pay equal attention to all normal and disabled students. For instance, the USA universities have specified computers, scanners, and testing centers for disabled students. They are also some people who can become their private tutors in case of demands. Furthermore, many people as well as the ones who are above thirty years old study in the American universities, but in Iran classroom colleagues have all same ages. Besides hardness of materials and study conditions, another contrast is atmosphere of the classes in Iran and the USA. In Iran, students can neither eat nor speak with each other in the class hours because it distracts others concentrations from teacher’s speech. On the other hand, in the United States, students can eat whenever they feel hungry in the class, which makes an informal atmosphere. They can also sit anyway that makes them more comfortable including a sleeping position. Then again, in the formal atmosphere of the classes in Iran, students have to have the instructor’s permission to get out of the class. In addition, the benefit of a formal atmosphere in class is that by paying more attention to their teacher, students can learn better. While not concentrating fully on to the teacher’s speech, has a negative effect on the educational level. Furthermore, the last important difference between educational system in Iran and the USA is having several kinds of facilities in their schools. Iran is one of the countries that dose not have too many facilities for the students. Therefore, if students did not read the chapter that their teacher want to teach before the class, they may confront difficulty in understanding it. Nevertheless, in spite of having less facility in the schools in Iran, students improve their learning level by registering in private or semiprivate classes. On the other hand, students in the USA have all kind of facilities in their schools, which are free for them. In the United States, student can access to various types of learning methods easily. As an example, by reading different books, having tutors, and watching films about that specific subject in their schools, they can improve their learning level. In summary, Educational system in Iran differs from the USA in hardness of material in high schools, condition of studying, atmosphere and tools of studying. Students can combine the positive methods of both Iran and the USA for improving their educational system. Additionally, having a break in the middle of a formal atmospheric class is an alternative way of recapturing students’ attention when they feeling tired distracts their attention.

“Lord of the flies” by William Golding Analysis

Choose a novel in which the novelist makes effective use of symbolism. Show how the writer made use of this technique to enhance your appreciation of the text as a whole. In your answer you must refer closely to the text, and to at least three of symbolism, theme, structure, or any other appropriate feature. â€Å"Lord of the Flies† by William Golding Have you ever imagined being stranded on a fictitious tropical island? , Or how about waking up one morning with a group of children on an island and finding out there is no sign of adult life? In the book â€Å"Lord of the flies† by William Golding these circumstances come true as a group of young boys are stranded on an island as they face their fight for survival following a plane crash. The boys face a tough task on the island as they face the expectance of the unknown. The first sign of symbolism in the book is when one of the little boys, also known as ‘the littluns', tells the group that he saw â€Å"A snake-thing. Ever so big†. This puts the group into an uproar about how some sort of beast is lurking on the island. Also you can read Analysis July at the Multiplex Being holder of the conch, Ralph tries to calm everybody down by saying â€Å"he must have had a nightmare†, but Jack just has to pop in stating that â€Å"if there was a snake we'd hunt it and kill it. During the night of the boy's search for the beast, Jack claims to have seen it. The following morning he calls a meeting and lets everyone know that there is really a beast. The beast a creation of the boys' minds, reflected as the most frightening object ever. The â€Å"beast† was slowly transformed from a bear to a flying, invisible, living thing, which eats everything in its way, especially human beings. It holds fear in the most terrifying way causing the end of the book to develop like it does. Although the beast they imagine doesn't exist, they flinch at the thought of the beast. This changes their behavior; they are so scared that they do not wander alone in the jungle. This fear, which the beast causes in the boys, allows Jack to keep his tribe under his command by creating an image for him. He is looked up upon as someone gutsy and strong, not scared of the beast unlike everyone else. The fire on the mountain is a symbol of escape and hope, and used as a signal for attracting the attention of passing boats/planes which might rescue them. Ralph introduced this idea in an attempt to establish a shift of kids for the maintenance of the fire. Towards the middle of the book, the shift wasn't followed, resulting in the fire being put out. It is easy to understand that when the fire burns high the boys have a high sense of hope of being rescued, but when the fire burns low because of neglect there is a low sense of hope and depression affects them all. Despite all of Ralph's attempts to keep the fire going throughout the book, Jack's authority is too strong and with the tribe Jack formed, Ralph is forced to let it burn out since he has no one to take care of the fire. The lord of the flies is a pig's head on a stake used as a sacrifice for the beast. It is given this name for the swarm of flies, which surround it. Jack believes that by giving the beast some food, the beast will not bother his tribe. At one point in the novel, it appears to be talking to Simon defining what is evil and what is good. This conversation inspires Simon to go to the mountain to find the beast. He realizes that the beast does not exist and this leads him to his death when he is brutally killed by the other kids because they thought he was the beast. The scar symbolizes a wound caused by mankind upon an untouched natural island. It is the place where the airplane crashed on the island. It plowed through the thick jungle, creating an area of chopped-down trees and shrubs. This is the place where Piggy and Ralph first met. Piggy introduced himself and became Ralph's companion. Read also Analysis of Characters in Flannery O’Connor’s â€Å"The Life You Save May Be Your Own† Close to the scar is the pool that Ralph and Piggy find the conch in. The conch is an symbol of peace, organization, and honesty for it has an authority which Ralph created at the beginning of the book. The conch is used to establish order in the boy's meetings because whoever has the conch, has the right to speak. The conch gave order in a world without grown ups and, like the law, it was respected, but when the kids realize that there was no punishment for disobeying it, they took advantage of the freedom to rebel against it. In the end of the book, when the conch is destroyed, Ralph is forced to give up and, with him; all the desperate attempts to be civilized are pointless. Golding presented numerous themes and basic ideas that give the reader something to think about. One of the most basic and obvious themes is that society holds everyone together, and without these conditions, our ideals, values, and the basics of right and wrong are lost. Golding is also showing that morals come directly from our surroundings, and if there is no civilization around us, we will lose these values. There were many other possible secondary themes I noticed in the book such as people will abuse power when it's not earned, When given a chance, people often single out another to degrade or improve their own security, You can only cover up inner savagery so long before it breaks out, given the right situation, It's better to examine the consequences of a decision before you make it than to discover them afterwards and the fear of the unknown can be a powerful force, which can turn you to either insight or madness. One thing I found interesting about this novel was I recognized that we must study and compare the characters of Jack and Ralph to understand Golding's meaning of the novel. Once the author lets the reader find the characters of similarities and differences it lets them understand Jack's and Ralph's rivalry. Golding tries to tell us a lesson of staying in a civilized society and not entering the dark and gloomy society. Watch the people around you for the people closest may be the people about to destroy civilization and the chance of being saved in this case. The Lord of the Flies† has so far been the one of the most interesting books I have ever read. The book is extremely addictive and written very cleverly, it did not take long for me to get into and finish it. Golding is an author with deep thoughts and a good understanding of human nature, which was very noticeable throughout the novel. I felt the novel was certainly both entertaining and educational. Entertaining in a way that the book is packed full of death, torture and most importantly, realism. Reading this book made feel as though I had my own character role in my mysterious exploration of the unknown. The educational side of the book I think was being on the adventure. What you learned from your experience. It lets you see what kind of issues you would have to handle or face up to if you were on the island with the others. If I was to trapped on an island now I think actually reading Lord of the Flies who fill me with experience and ideas to take me through my fight for survival.

Free Essays on Cosmetic Testing On Animals

Cosmetic Testing on Animals A topic that has always been close to many people’s hearts is the one of animal testing. Some believe that it is right completely, some that it is right but only under certain circumstances, and others believe that all animal testing is wrong and will go to extraordinary lengths to stop it. Should animals be harmed to benefit mankind? This is a pressing question that has been around for at least the past two centuries. In my opinion, it is morally inhumane to torture our animals. Every year, millions of animals suffer and die in painful tests to determine the safety of cosmetics. Substances such as eye shadow and soap are tested on rabbits, rats, guinea pigs, dogs, and other animals. All of this, despite the fact that the test results don’t help prevent or treat human illness or injury. Some of the tests used on animals are eye irritancy tests, acute toxicity tests, and skin irritancy tests. For centuries, animals have been used in these types of research. (1) A restrained dog waits in a laboratory. Within the next few minutes this dog will be force-fed or forced to inhale huge amounts of a potentially lethal chemical. This will cause the dog to vomit, suffer convulsions and internal bleeding. The dog will not be anaesthetized during this test. Scientists believe that using painkillers will interfere with the accuracy of the test results. This is not a test for curing cancer. This is not a test for curing AIDS. This dog is being tested for a brand new hair dye. Another dog will be tested in the same way for toothpaste, another for face powder. This is known as the notorious LD-50 test. The test is complete when 50% of the test animals die. The surviving 50% are killed, autopsied and analyzed to determine which organs and systems were affected and why they didn't die during the test. The Draize test for eye and skin irritancy is equally horrifying. In the Draize test... Sample Classroom Rules for Teachers

Sample Classroom Rules for Teachers When designing your classroom rules, keep in mind that your rules must be clear, comprehensive, and enforceable. And then comes the most important part... you must be consistent in enforcing them all the time, with every student, using predictable and delineated consequences. Some teachers suggest writing the class rules with your students, using their input to create buy-in and cooperation. Consider the benefits of strong, teacher-determined rules that are not viewed as negotiable by the people who must follow them. Weigh the pros and cons before deciding which method to employ. State your rules in the positive (no donts) and expect the best from your students. They will rise to the high expectations you set starting from the first minute of the first day of the school year. 5 Simple Classroom Rules Here are the five classroom rules that are simple, comprehensive, positive, and clear. Be respectful to all.Come to class prepared.Do your best.Have a winning attitude.Have fun and learn! Of course, there are many variations of classroom rules that you can follow, but these five rules have been a staple in my classroom and they work. When looking at these rules, students know that they must respect each and every person in the classroom, including me. They also know that it is essential to come to class prepared and ready to work and do their best. In addition to that, students must enter the classroom with a winning attitude, not a pessimistic one. And finally, students know that learning should be fun, so they need to come to school every day ready to learn and have some fun. Variations of the Rules Some teachers like to be more specific in their rules, such as hands must be kept to yourself at all times. Bestselling author and Teacher of the Year Ron Clark (The Essential 55 and The Excellent 11) actually recommends having 55 essential rules for the classroom. While that may seem like a lot of rules to follow, you can always look through them and choose the rules that suite your classroom and your needs.   The most important thing is to spend time before the school year starts determining which rules fit your voice, personality, and objectives. Think about what you want your students to do and keep in mind that your rules must suite a large group of students, not just a few individuals. Try and keep your rules down to a limit between 3-5 rules. The simpler the rules, the easier it is for students to remember them and to follow them. Edited By: Janelle Cox
